West Cork Calling member, Mark Gannon, who runs Courtmacsherry Sea Angling has been very much involved with the plan to develop a 192 berth marina at Tanners Quay at the western end of Courtmacsherry. The marina will provide all weather, safe berthing for both local and visiting boats. A utility building with all the facilities that the modern sea farer demands is also included in the plans.
Courtmacsherry, like many other coastal villages in West Cork, has seen a decline in employment in traditional industries and this marine tourism initiative is seen as a major way of generating a sustainable economy for the area. The development is supported by the RNLI which will avail of modern facilities for the berthing of the lifeboat currently located in Courtmac. This will help them to have faster response times and increased maintenance efficiency. More information about the developkment is available on the website www.courtmacsherrymarina.ie
